12 Homemade Organic Baby Porridges For Super Busy Moms

Let’s be honest, all moms are super busy with work, school or home and still find time to be awesome moms! To be an awesome mom, among other things, feeding your baby nutritious and tasty foods is one of the number one reasons! As always breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but morning can be pretty hectic. So we decided to give you a break with a few quick baby porridge recipes that you can prepare instantly or have it ready for the morning.

Since porridge and oatmeal are the most common “go-to” breakfast recipes for babies that are ready for solids, we’re going to show you how you can kick it up a notch!

1. Oat Porridge

First, to make the best organic baby food you'll need oats and produce from your favourite veggie shop or the farmers market.

For this porridge for babies we’ll start with a basic plain oat or oatmeal!

You’ll need:

  • 2 tsp of powdered oats
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk

The next part is super easy: 

  • Dry roast the organic oats in a pan on medium heat for about 2 minutes
  • Then, once cooled, grind the oats until they turn into powder on our Homia Molle, only the best coffee grinder out there! It will grind anything, not just coffee beans, it’s safe and easy to use.
  • Blend 2 tsp of your powdered oats, 2 to 3 cups of water (formula or breastmilk) into Homia Infano until fully mixed.
  • Then place mix into a boiling pan and bring to a boil and let it simmer for 3 minutes.
  • Lower heat to medium and stir occasionally to avoid lumps for about 5 to 8 minutes for desired consistency.
  • Once cooled it’s ready to serve!

NOTE: You can store whatever powder you didn’t use and it won’t spoil for at least 3 weeks!

2. Oat-Apple Porridge

Mix it up by giving those fruits and veggies that baby needs in the porridge itself! That’s the beauty of it, you can add whatever you want and you can’t go wrong!

(It’s kind of apple souse & porridge all-in-one).

You’ll need:

  • ½ of finely chopped red (to your preference) apple
  • 1 cup of powdered oats
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk

Instructions:

  • For this recipe place your chopped apples into Homia Infano’s steaming basket and steam for about 5 minutes.
  • Then drop into infano’s blender along with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional), 1 teaspoon of sugar and 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk.
  • Mix well and then boil for 3 to 5 minutes within Infano.
  • Let it cool and you’re ready to serve.                                                       

3. Date-Oat Porridge

This recipe help a fussy 10+ month old baby with constipation and make sure your child doesn't have a nut allergy before adding any nutty ingrediente.

You’ll need:

  • 2 tsp of instant oats
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nuts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk

Instructions:

  • First soak dates (as many as you’re going to use) in water for 15 minutes and place into a boiling pan.
  • Then, take 2 tsp of instant oats and place them in the same pan as the soaked dates along with and 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk.
  • Grind 1 cup of your baby’s fav. nuts in our Molle Coffee Grinder until they turn to powder and set aside for now.
  • Add 1 cup of water to the mixture and bring it to a boil: simmer for 3 minutes.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of ground nuts and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
  • Mix in medium heat until oats have completely absorbed the water (or other liquid) in the pan.
  • Let it cool and you’re ready to serve!

4. Carrot-Oat Porridge

You want to make sure your baby gets enough iron in their diet and have healthy eyesight. This recipe will help you get those orange veggies into their diet even if they don’t like the taste!

You’ll need:

  • ¼ a cup of carrots
  • 1 cup of powdered oats
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered coconut
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered nuts (optional)
  • 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk

Instructions:

  • For this recipe place your chopped carrots into Homia Infano’s steaming basket and steam for about 5 minutes.
  • Grind ¼ cup of dried coconut into Molle Coffee Grinder until it’s powder and put aside.
  • Then drop carrots into a boiling pan along with 2 tsp of powdered oats.
  • Add 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk and add 1 teaspoon of sugar.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of nutty powder from earlier into the mixture (optional).
  • Mix well and then boil for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Let it set for 5 minutes, then add 1 teaspoon of grounded coconut and mix well. You’re ready to serve!

5. Banana-Oat Porridge

One of baby’s fav. fruits is banana which is fantastic for mom since its packed with potassium, vitamins and minerals. it helps keep the blood pressure in check and is a great source of  energy rich in B12!

You’ll need:

  • ¼ a cup of bananas
  • 2 tsp of instant oats
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered nuts (optional)
  • 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk

Instructions:

  • Place your chopped bananas into Homia Infano’s steaming basket and steam for about 5 minutes.
  • Mash bananas before placing them into a boiling pan along with 2 tsp of instant oats.
  • Then drop bananas into a boiling pan, add 2 to 3 cups of water, formula or breastmilk and add 1 teaspoon of sugar.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of nutty powder from earlier into the mixture (optional).
  • Mix well and then boil for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Let it set for 5 minutes and you’re ready to serve!

6. Banana-Apple Rice Porridge

This combination is helps with baby’s growth since rice processes calcium & iron. Brown rice specifically has even more nutrients and less likely to cause allergies. Along with the banana with its great source of potassium and apples with their fiber, this meal provides many tasty vitamins!

You’ll need:

  • ¼ a cup of banana
  • ¼ a cup of apple
  • 1 cup of organic brown rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 3 tsp of formula or breastmilk

Instructions:

  • First clean your rice really well for several times and air dry.
  • Dry roast 1 cup of rice on a pan on medium heat for about 7 minutes and stir often to avoid sticking/sharing of the rice.
  • Roast until browned (despite the color). Once cooled, grind roasted rice in Molle Coffee Grinder until powdered.
  • Place your ¼ cup of chopped apple place into the Homia Infano steaming basket and steam for 5 minutes.
  • Then take your ¼ a cup of chopped banana, mash it and set aside for now.
  • One your apple is cooled, like the banana, mash it well and put aside.
  • Then start a boiling pan on medium heat, place 1 tsp of yor powdered rice and 2 cups of water.
  • Cook for 5 minutes or until desired thickness and turn off heat.
  • Once cooled transfer mashed banana & apple mixes into rice porridge.
  • Mix well and you are ready to serve!

7. Corn Porridge

Now if you’re looking for something smooth and is an alternative to oats, Corn gives that signature yellow color in the porridge that is rich in vitamins and minerals. For this porridge we are going to show you a two part series for a organic cornmeal.

Part I 

Cornmeal:

You’ll need:

1 cup unpopped popcorn

  • Pop the corn into Molle Coffee Grinder and grind until powdered.
  • Set aside for the next phase.

Part II

Corn Porridge:

You’ll need:

  • ½ a cup of fine cornmeal (from Part I)
  • 1 ½ cup of formula, breast or your choice of milk
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions:

  • Set a small saucepan  at medium heat and pour in 1 ½ cup of milk, formula or breast milk,2 tsp of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 pinch of salt and 1 cinnamon stick.
  • Wisk or mix well and slowly pour the cornmeal into the pan.
  • By incorporating it slowly you make sure that the’re no lumps. Once one dose is mixed, you pour in more cornmeal.
  • Keep doing this until you are out of the powder, all the while never stop whisking.
  • Mix for 5 to 10 minutes or, until desired consistency. Let it cool and it’s ready to serve.

NOTE: Don’t use any milk other than formula or breast milk if your baby is 12 months old or less.

WARNING: The following content is for 12+ month old babies!

8. The Pear-Raisin Oat Porridge

Your baby is digesting more solid foods now so this recipe will help baby pass meals with ease. It’s power packed combo of vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber and many more that will help your baby’s immune system.

You’ll need:

  • ¼ cup of instant oats
  • ½ cup of finely chopped pears
  • ½ cup  of powdered pistachios (= 10 pistachios)
  • 1 tsp of finely chopped raisins
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Instructions:

  • Before you crank up the heat, you need to take care of a few things first. Take  10 pistachios and grind them into powder in Molle Coffee Grinder and set aside.
  • (Optional) For optimum creaminess, puree and set aside the ½ a cup of finely chopped pears and 1 tsp of finely chopped raisins; place in separate containers.
  • In a saucepan (no heat) pour in 1 cup milk of your choice, ½ a cup of pistachio powder and 1 tsp of finely chopped raisins (or raisin/pear purees).
  • Bring to a boil, once boiling add ¼ cup of instant oats and turn heat down to low. Stir and cook for 5 minutes or until creamy for consistency.
  • (Optional) If you like chunks of fruit in your baby’s porridge, turn off the heat and add finely chopped pears to the mix along with 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Stir until incorporated and let it cool for about 3 minutes. You are ready to serve!

9. Multigrain-Nut Porridge

Whole grain is one the first strong solid food that your baby is introduced to; it helps with digestion and oral health; this combo gives your baby the chance to get crunchy nutrients and minerals that will help with growth.

You’ll need:

  • ½ cup of whole wheat
  • ½ cup of brown rice
  • ½ cup of instant roasted oats
  • ¼ cup of almonds
  • ¼ walnut
  • ¼ cup of sunflower seeds (optional)
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice

Instructions:

  • Dry roast all the nuts (¼ cup of almonds ¼ walnut and ¼ cup of sunflower seeds) and set aside.
  • Wash and strain ½ cup of whole wheat and ½ cup of brown rice; let it dry. Then dry roast mix and set aside.
  • Once both mixes have been roasted combine them with ½ cup of instant roasted oats and blend in Molle Coffee Grinder until powdered.
  • Now, in a saucepan (no heat yet to avoid lumps) pour in ¼ cup of water, 1 cup of milk of your choice and multigrain-nut mix. Stir until mixed.
  • Turn on heat to medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Then cook on low all the while stirring for excellent creaminess.
  • Stir for 5 minutes or until thick and you’re ready to serve.

10. Blueberry Coconut Oatmeal

Blueberries help regulate blood pressure, promote bone growth and improve your baby’s eye health. For the most part coconut promotes healthy skin and hair growth, it also prevents protein loss which is very important for baby to grow strong.

You'll need:

  • ½ a cup of blueberries
  • ½ a cup of finely chopped banana
  • ¼ cup of instant oats
  • 1 tsp of roasted coconut
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan (no heat) pour 1 cup of milk of your choice, ¼ cup of instant oats and 1 tsp of roasted coconut. Stir until mixed.
  • Turn on heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low.
  • (Optional) Puree the  fruits in molle Coffee Grinder and add to the mix.
  • Cook for 4 minutes all the while stirring to avoid lumps.
  • Turn off heat and add ½ a cup of blueberries, ½ a cup of finely chopped banana and 1 teaspoon of honey. Stir until incorporated, let it cool for a few minuts and you’re ready to serve.

11. Fig Banana Oatmeal

We all know of bananas and there potassium, but what about figs? Well they actually help with digestion, liver protection and strengthens the immune system. For this healthy treat,

you’ll need:

  • ¼ cup of instant oats (powdered if you prefer)
  • 1 tsp of finely chopped dried or fresh figs
  • ½ mashed or pureed banana
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice
  • 2 teaspoons of honey

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan (no heat) pour 1 cup of milk of your choice, 1 tsp of finely chopped dried or fresh figs and ¼ cup of instant oats and stir.
  • Bring to a boil, once boiling reduce heat to low.
  • Stir until incorporated, turn off heat and add ½ mashed or pureed banana with thw 1 teaspoon of honey and stir until mixed.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes and you’re ready to serve.

12. Strawberry Date Oatmeal

Although it’s always recommended that moms should introduce strawberries to babies 12+ month old because it’s potensial allegiant; they are a good source of calcium and vitamins C, E and many more.

You’ll need:

  • ¼ cup of instant oats
  • ⅓ cup of finely chopped or pureed strawberries
  • 2 finely chopped or pureed dates
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
  • 1 cup of milk of your preference

Instructions:

  • (Optional) Can puree the fruits separately and set aside.
  • In a saucepan (no heat) pur in 1 cup of milk of your preference, 2 finely chopped or pureed dates and bring ro a boil.
  • Once boiling add ¼ cup of instant oats and bring heat down to low.
  • Cook while stirring to avoid lumps for 5 minutes.
  • Turn off heat, add ⅓ cup of finely chopped or pureed strawberries with 2 teaspoons of honey and stir until incorporated.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes and you’re ready to serve.
